What does Ecobox offer?

With Ecobox, you can:

rent Ecobox moving kits, containing sturdy, plastic moving boxes
buy cardboard boxes in a wide range of sizes
buy affordable packing materials, including protective packing materials
rent a moving trolley

Where does Ecobox operate?

Ecobox currently has outlets in Gauteng, Durban, and Cape Town, strategically located within all Xtraspace branches.

In addition to our convenient store locations, we offer reliable delivery and collection services.

We extend our delivery services within a 70-kilometre radius of our warehouses in Johannesburg (268 Commissioner Street, CBD), Durban (99 Chris Hani Road, Durban North), and Cape Town (27 Kiaat Road, Kraaifontein).

Packing materials & trolleys

What packing materials do you offer?

We offer a comprehensive range of packing supplies online, from packing tape and bubble wrap to protective mattress covers, pallet wrap, plastic furniture covers and furniture blankets, for protecting furniture during moves.

Do you rent moving trolleys?

Yes. With our ordering system, you can rent a moving trolley online and have it delivered, along with packing boxes and any other packing materials you need, to your location. We’ll also collect the trolley once you’ve finished using it.

Trolleys are available for a minimum rental period of 7 days.

Cardboard boxes

Do you sell cardboard boxes online?

Yes – we offer both single-wall and sturdier double-wall cardboard packing boxes in a large range of sizes.

What size cardboard packing boxes do you supply?

We offer cardboard moving boxes in a wide range of sizes and are constantly expanding our range of products.

Currently, our smallest boxes measure 150 mm x 100mm x 100mm – these are suitable for heavier items.

Our largest cardboard boxes measure 500 mm x 400 mm x 780 mm, and are ideal for packing lighter items such as bedding, linen, clothes or soft toys.

What is the difference between single-wall and double-wall cardboard boxes?

The walls of a single-wall cardboard box consist of a corrugated sheet of cardboard, sandwiched between straight sheets of cardboard on either side. The corrugated cardboard is shaped into a series of S-shaped, parallel ridges, to add strength and rigidity to the box.

A double-wall cardboard box has two (instead of just one) melded layers, with two corrugated sheets sandwiched between straight sheets.

Single-wall cardboard boxes are a bit cheaper than double-wall boxes. They’re ideal for reasonably light items.

Double-wall boxes are stronger. They’re a good choice for transporting medium- to heavier-weight items.

Which is better – Ecoboxes or cardboard boxes?

This depends on your needs. Some of our customers use a combination.

Ecoboxes are an eco-friendly option and, because they’re made of sturdy plastic, help protect items from damage during moves. They’re also easy to stack and transport. They’re available for rent only.

Our cardboard boxes are an inexpensive option if you want to buy moving boxes online – for example, if you’re not sure when you’ll be ready to unpack your items or want to store items longer term.

Some of our cardboard boxes are designed for specific uses. For instance, use our flat-screen TV box to move a TV or our wardrobe box to move clothing with minimal creasing.

Do you recycle cardboard boxes?

No, we do not facilitate recycling. A quick google search for a recycling centre near you will provide details to assist.

Deliveries & payment

There are no delivery options for my address?

If you need courier quotes for locations outside of the 50-kilometer warehouse radius, we’re here to help! Just shoot us an email at sales@ecobox.co.za, and we’ll get you all the info you need from our reliable third-party partners. Let’s get your packages moving!

How long does delivery take?

We deliver (and collect) within 24 hours – or 48 hours if an order is received after 4 p.m. Orders placed after 4 p.m. on Friday will be delivered on the following Tuesday.

How do you accept payment?

We accept payment by credit card or debit card. Our online ordering system will guide you through the payment process.

How do I know my details are safe if I order from Ecobox online?

Online payments to Ecobox are handled by Payfast – a secure, third-party payment gateway that’s widely used and trusted in South Africa.

Ecobox won’t ever sell or redistribute your information. Information about our privacy policy is available here.

Can we collect our boxes instead of having them delivered?

Yes, a Local Pickup option is available on checkout that gives you the option of collecting your boxes from one of our pickup locations.

Please note that collection of rental products is subject to a 48 hour waiting period for us to prepare your order.

Is it possible to extend an order?

Yes, but please give us a call on 010 595 5555 or send us an email at sales@ecobox.co.za to arrange this.

Do you have retail branches?

The products we offer online are available from a number of retail stores across Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, as well as in Cape Town.

Please note that rental products are not readily availble at our retail outlets and need to be arranged miminum 48 hours in advance.

Ecoboxes

What is an Ecobox?

An Ecobox is a sturdy, plastic moving container that’s ideal for packing, moving and storing items. It’s ideal even for heavier or more fragile items, and is an eco-friendly packing option.

What are the dimensions of an Ecobox?

Each Ecobox measures 600 mm x 400 mm x 400 mm and has a capacity of 70 litres.

Do you sell Ecoboxes or only rent them?

We only rent Ecoboxes, in convenient moving kits. Once you’ve finished your move, we’ll collect the boxes from a location you specify and clean and sanitise them for reuse.

How long can we keep Ecoboxes we rent?

Ecoboxes are available for a minimum rental period of 8 days. The Ecoboxes are delivered and in your possession for 7 nights, we collect on the 8th day. Should you need to extend your rental we have standard pricing per day.

Do you offer long-term rentals of Ecoboxes?

For longer rental requirements, please contact us so we can discuss a special arrangement.

Why would I consider renting one of your moving kits online?

Moving kits make life simpler by including all the Ecoboxes you’re likely to need, given the size of your home or office move.

Available Ecobox kit:

a home moving kit for one, two, three or four bedrooms
an office moving kit for a small, medium or large office
each moving kit includes the number of Ecoboxes, seals, labels and markers, depending on the size of your move

What are benefits of your Ecobox moving kits?

Our Ecobox moving kits contain everything you need to pack and move a home or office – including a specific number of Ecoboxes, depending on the size of your move.

Ecoboxes are sturdy, sealable plastic moving boxes that:

stack uniformly to optimise moving truck and storage space
nest neatly when empty
protect even fragile or heavy contents
won’t buckle, break or be damaged by water
are environmentally friendly.
Each Ecobox we rent is thoroughly cleaned after each use and then reused, potentially hundreds of times – and it’s fully recyclable. This makes it an eco-friendly packing choice.

Will you collect Ecoboxes after I’ve finished using them?

If you fall within our delivery and collection radius (within 50km from our three warehouses), we’ll collect Ecoboxes you’ve rented from the location you specify, on the collection date you specify.
